About Matt Hern CFP
 Hi, I'm Matt Hern.
I am a Certified Financial Planner professional and have three times been awarded as one of Australia’s Top 50 Financial Planners as part of The Australian Financial Review Smart Investor Masterclass. I have spent nine years working in the financial planning industry and started my own business FINDRE in 2005.
Prior to that I was a Petroleum Engineer with BHP Billiton, which including working on offshore rigs. During this time I made a lot of mistakes with my money for which I subsequently kicked myself whilst I completed my financial planning studies.
The question I often asked was "why didn't someone tell me this before? It's so simple and easy."
This evolved into a passion to share what I was learning and inspire people to take action to ensure they have the money and time to live their dream life. For me it is not about the money, it is about what money facilitates: your lifestyle dreams.
It breaks my heart to hear people say "I'd love to do that, but I just can't afford it". I know there are many simple and easy things most people could be doing, which would mean they could afford to do many more things they wish they could do. So I am obsessed with sharing this information so that you can afford to live your dream lifestyle.
In shorthand I think of this as financial fulfillment - having the money to live a fulfilling life.
As I firmly believe financial planning is not about the money, I believe that Return on Investment (ROI) needs to be measured more than just in terms of hard currency. You need to also consider the lifestyle cost - the time and energy you invested to get the return.
My focus is on recommending you do the high impact, low effort financial things. So if you’d rather be out embracing life than reading The Australian Financial Review each day, then my seminars and advice are for you.
